Udaipur’s Top 10 Restaurants That Passed the Bhukkad Taste Test — No Paid Reviews, Just Truth

Udaipur's Top 10 Restaurants That Passed the Bhukkad Taste Test — No Paid Reviews, Just Truth

🔥 Before We Begin — Let’s Get Something Straight

Udaipur is called the City of Lakes.

But honestly? For us at Bhukkad The Food Explorer, it might as well be called the City of Flavours.

Because behind every narrow lane, every rooftop with a lake view, and every old haveli in this royal city — there’s a plate of food waiting to either blow your mind or break your heart.

And we were here to find out which one was which.

Now, before you scroll further, let us make one thing absolutely clear —

No restaurant paid us to be on this list.
No PR packages. No free meals in exchange for five stars.
No “collaboration” that made us sugarcoat the truth.

We walked in like regular customers.
We ordered like hungry bhukkads.
We paid our own bills.
And we told you exactly what we felt.

That’s the Bhukkad promise. Always.

So whether you’re a solo traveller planning your Udaipur itinerary, a couple looking for a romantic dinner spot, or a family on a Rajasthan road trip — this guide is built for you, not for the restaurants.

Let’s eat. 🍛

📍 Why Udaipur’s Food Scene Deserves Your Full Attention

Most people come to Udaipur for the lakes, the palaces, and the sunsets.

But if you leave without diving deep into the food — you’ve only experienced half of Udaipur’s soul.

Udaipur’s culinary identity is a beautiful collision of:

  • 🏰 Royal Rajputana traditions — rich gravies, slow-cooked meats, and regal thalis
  • 🌿 Simple vegetarian Marwari cooking — dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, ker sangri
  • 🌍 Modern cosmopolitan influence — rooftop cafes, continental menus, global cuisines
  • 💰 Budget street food culture — chaat, kachori, mirchi bada, and more

The restaurant scene here has exploded in the last five years. And with that explosion comes the noise — paid reviews, fake ratings, and influencer posts that tell you nothing real.

That’s exactly why Bhukkad The Food Explorer came here.

To cut through the noise.
To eat everything.
And to tell you the truth.

🥇 1. Natraj Dining Hall & Restaurant

“The Thali That Slaps Every Single Time”

Location: City Railway Station Road, Udaipur
💰 Price Range: ₹200 – ₹500 per person
🕐 Best Time to Visit: Lunch (12 PM – 3 PM)
🍽️ Must Order: Rajasthani Thali

The Bhukkad Experience

If you want to understand Udaipur on a plate, then start from here.

Natraj is not glamorous. It doesn’t have a rooftop lake view or fairy lights strung across the ceiling. What it has is something far more valuable — food that makes you close your eyes with the first bite.

We walked in during lunch hour, and the place was packed. Locals, families, tourists who clearly knew what they were doing — all sitting elbow to elbow, eating from thalis that just kept getting refilled.

And oh, that thali. 👑

It arrived like a small festival on a plate:

  • Dal Baati Churma — buttery, crumbly, soul-satisfying
  • Gatte ki Sabzi — soft chickpea flour dumplings in a tangy yoghurt gravy
  • Ker Sangri — the wild berry and bean Rajasthani classic
  • Bajre ki Roti — thick, earthy, deeply comforting
  • Chaas — thin buttermilk that cleaned your palate between every bite
  • Gulab Jamun — not too sweet, just right

The portions? Unlimited. The moment your bowl looked slightly empty, someone refilled it with a smile and zero fuss.

The Honest Truth
What We Loved:

The authenticity here is unmatched. This is not Rajasthani food made for tourists. This is Rajasthani food made the way it’s supposed to be made. The flavours are bold, the spices are honest, and the ghee is not shy.

What Could Be Better:

The ambience is strictly no-frills. Don’t come here expecting Instagram-worthy interiors. Also, peak lunch hours mean a wait — go slightly early or slightly late.

Bhukkad Verdict:

“This is Udaipur’s food soul on a plate. Non-negotiable visit.”

2. Upre By 1559 AD
“When The View And Food Both Win”

📍 Location: Roof Top Hotel Lake Pichola Road Outside Chand Pole, Lake, Pichola, Udaipur, Rajasthan
💰 Price Range: ₹800 – ₹1,800 per person
🕐 Best Time to Visit: Sunset Dinner (7 PM onwards)
🍽️ Must Order: Laal Maas, Stuffed Mirchi, Dal Makhani

The Bhukkad Experience

There are restaurants where you go for the view and forgive the food.

Upre is not one of them.

Perched directly on the banks of Lake Pichola, Upre gives you a view of the City Palace glittering across the water — and then, just when you think the view is the star of the show, the food arrives and steals the spotlight.

We visited at sunset — which, if you’re planning a trip, is the only way to experience this place. The sky turned shades of orange and pink, the lake shimmered, and we sat there with a bowl of Laal Maas that had us completely speechless.

For the uninitiated — Laal Maas is Rajasthan’s fiery red mutton curry. And Upre’s version is the real deal. Slow-cooked, deeply spiced, with a heat that builds gradually and then sits with you long after the meal is done.

The Stuffed Mirchi Pakoras as a starter? Game-changing. Crisp on the outside, flavour-packed on the inside, served with a mint chutney that balanced the spice beautifully.

The Honest Truth

What We Loved:

The combination of genuine Rajasthani flavours with a polished, elevated dining experience. This is not fine dining that sacrifices taste for presentation — here, both coexist beautifully.

What Could Be Better:

It’s on the pricier side. Also, reservations are strongly recommended — especially for dinner during tourist season. Walk-ins during peak months can mean long waits.

Bhukkad Verdict:

“Worth every rupee. One of Udaipur’s finest dining experiences – and we mean that with zero exaggeration”

3. Millets Of Mewar

“Healthy, Conscious and Actually Delicious”

📍 Location: Badhu Ji ka Darwaja, 51, City Palace Rd, Near Jagdish Temple, Udaipur, Rajasthan
💰 Price Range: ₹300 – ₹700 per person
🕐 Best Time to Visit: Breakfast or Lunch
🍽️ Must Order: Millet Thali, Ragi Pancakes, Jowar Pizza

The Bhukkad Experience

Okay, we’ll be honest — when we first heard “millet restaurant,” we were skeptical.

Healthy food and delicious food don’t always share the same plate. But Millets of Mewar completely shattered that assumption.

This place is built around reviving the ancient grain culture of the Mewar region — millets like ragi, jowar, bajra, and foxtail millet that have fed Rajasthan for centuries but somehow fell off the modern menu.

The Millet Thali was a revelation. Each element — from the bajra roti to the ragi khichdi to the jowar-based dessert — was deeply flavourful, nourishing, and genuinely satisfying. Not “healthy food satisfying.” Actually satisfying.

The Jowar Pizza sounds gimmicky. It is not. The base had a slightly nutty, earthy flavour that worked brilliantly with the toppings. Our entire table was surprised.

The cafe itself has a warm, earthy vibe — wooden furniture, natural light, a conscious design ethos that matches the food philosophy.

The Honest Truth

What We Loved:
The concept, the execution, and the fact that they’re doing something genuinely meaningful — reviving traditional grains while making food that tastes incredible. The sustainability angle feels authentic, not performative.

What Could Be Better:
Not the place for someone craving heavy, indulgent Rajasthani fare. The menu is niche — if you’re not open to millet-based food, this might not be your spot.

Bhukkad Verdict:

“A dining experience that feeds your body and your conscience. Udaipur’s most unique food story.”

 4. Ambrai Restaurant

“Lakeside Magic With Food to Match”

📍 Location: 62, Ambrai Rd, Chand Pole, Silawatwari, Udaipur, Rajasthan
💰 Price Range: ₹700 – ₹1,500 per person
🕐 Best Time to Visit: Dinner
🍽️ Must Order: Paneer Lababdar, Fish Curry, Dal Tadka

The Bhukkad Experience

Ambrai is Udaipur’s most photographed restaurant — and after visiting, we completely understand why.

The restaurant sits at the edge of Lake Pichola with an unobstructed view of the Jag Mandir and City Palace. At night, with everything illuminated, the view is nothing short of cinematic.

But we weren’t just here for the view. And thankfully, the food held its own.

The Paneer Lababdar was rich, velvety, and deeply spiced — exactly the kind of dish that makes you want to order extra roti just to clean the bowl. The Dal Tadka had that perfect smoky undertone, finished with a generous pour of ghee that elevated the entire dish.

The Fish Curry — a slightly unexpected item on a Rajasthani menu — was beautifully balanced. Not too heavy, not too light, with a coconut-based gravy that showed real culinary range.

The Honest Truth

What We Loved:
The combination of a genuinely stunning location with food that actually deserves the setting. Too many lakeside restaurants in tourist cities coast on their views. Ambrai puts in the work on the plate too.

What Could Be Better:
Service can be slow during peak hours — the stunning location brings large crowds. Some continental dishes on the menu felt slightly underwhelming compared to the Indian options. Stick to Indian here.

Bhukkad Verdict:
“Book a table. Arrive at sunset. Order Indian. Thank us later.”

5. Whistling Teal — Hotel Fateh Garh

Heritage Dining Done Right

📍 Location: 6, Haridas Ji Ki Magri Trident Road Near Oberoi Udai Vilas, Subhash Chauraha, Malla Talai, Udaipur, Rajasthan
💰 Price Range: ₹1,000 – ₹2,500 per person
🕐 Best Time to Visit: Dinner
🍽️ Must Order: Safed Maas, Rajasthani Kebab Platter, Mawa Kachori Dessert

The Bhukkad Experience

Fateh Garh is a heritage property built on a hillside overlooking Fateh Sagar Lake — and Whistling Teal is its crown jewel restaurant.

The setting is dramatic — stone architecture, warm lighting, open-air terraces with panoramic views. It feels like dining inside a living piece of Rajasthani history.

And then the Safed Maas arrived.

If Laal Maas is Rajasthan’s bold, fiery statement — Safed Maas is its elegant, understated counterpart. White mutton curry made with cream, cashew paste, and mild spices. Deeply nuanced. Perfectly balanced. The kind of dish that royal kitchens perfected over generations.

We also tried the Rajasthani Kebab Platter — an assortment of seekh kebabs, galouti kebabs, and tikkas, all carrying that distinctive charcoal smokiness that’s impossible to fake.

The Mawa Kachori served as dessert was the perfect ending — sweet, rich, and deeply Rajasthani.

The Honest Truth

What We Loved:
The food here feels like it has a story — like every recipe has been sourced from an old royal kitchen and carefully preserved. For food lovers who care about culinary heritage, this is a sacred space.

What Could Be Better:
The price point is premium, which is justified by the heritage setting and food quality — but budget travellers should plan accordingly. Not an everyday meal destination.

Bhukkad Verdict:
“Fine dining with a royal Rajasthani soul. This is what food heritage feels like.”

6. Tribute Restaurant — Taj Lake Palace

“Once-in-a-Lifetime Dining on the Lake”

📍 Location: 89/B, Ambamata Temple Rd, behind Monika Complex Rang Sagar, Pichola, Udaipur, Rajasthan
💰 Price Range: ₹2,500 – ₹6,000 per person
🕐 Best Time to Visit: Dinner
🍽️ Must Order: Royal Rajasthani Tasting Menu, Murgh Tikka, Shahi Tukda

The Bhukkad Experience

We’ll be real with you — this is the most expensive meal on this list.

And we debated whether to include it.

But here’s the thing. The Taj Lake Palace floats in the middle of Lake Pichola like a white marble dream. Dining here is not just a meal — it’s an experience that belongs on your life list.

You arrive by boat. The palace glows against the dark water. And then you sit in a restaurant that has hosted royalty, celebrities, and heads of state — and the kitchen knows it has a reputation to protect.

The Royal Rajasthani Tasting Menu is a curated journey through the royal kitchens of Mewar. Each course tells a story — from the delicate amuse-bouche to the slow-cooked main courses to the show-stopping desserts. The Shahi Tukda — a royal bread pudding soaked in reduced milk and saffron — was genuinely one of the finest desserts we’ve had anywhere in India.

Is it worth the price? If you can afford it — yes, unreservedly.

The Honest Truth

What We Loved:
The entire experience — from the boat arrival to the last bite of dessert — is flawlessly executed. The food quality matches the extraordinary setting. For a special occasion, this is Udaipur’s ultimate dining destination.

What Could Be Better:
The price is steep — this is clearly not for everyday dining. Some dishes on the à la carte menu feel slightly overpriced even by luxury standards. The tasting menu is the better value option here.

Bhukkad Verdict:
“An experience, not just a meal. Save up for it. It’s worth every paisa.”

7. Savage Garden

“The Rebel Restaurant Udaipur Didn’t Know It Needed”

📍 Location: 71, Gangaur Ghat Marg, above Cafe Edelweiss, Old City, Silawatwari, Udaipur, Rajasthan
💰 Price Range: ₹400 – ₹900 per person
🕐 Best Time to Visit: Evening / Dinner
🍽️ Must Order: Baked Camembert, Pasta Arrabiata, Chocolate Lava Cake

The Bhukkad Experience

Everything about Savage Garden is unexpected.

Tucked inside the old city walls of Chandpole, the restaurant feels like someone took a piece of bohemian Europe and quietly planted it in the heart of Rajasthan. Garden seating, eclectic decor, fairy lights, mismatched furniture — it has a personality, and it owns it unapologetically.

The menu is continental with a creative, free-spirited approach — which is a departure from most of this list. But Savage Garden earns its place here because it does something rare — it makes international food that feels genuinely crafted, not copied.

The Baked Camembert arrived golden and bubbling with a selection of crackers and fruit compote — executed with the kind of care you’d expect from a much fancier establishment. The Pasta Arrabiata had a bold, punchy tomato base with fresh herbs that made it feel alive.

And the Chocolate Lava Cake? Molten, dark, warm, and deeply satisfying. The kind of dessert that makes you forget everything else.

The Honest Truth

What We Loved:
The personality and confidence of this place. It knows exactly what it is and delivers it brilliantly. Great for travellers who want a break from heavy Rajasthani food without compromising on quality.

What Could Be Better:
The menu is entirely continental — don’t come here expecting Indian food. Also, the space is relatively small and fills up quickly in the evening. Reserve ahead.

Bhukkad Verdict:
“Udaipur’s most charming curveball. A must-visit for the experience alone.”

8. Banjara  Heritage Rooftop Restaurant

The Budget Rooftop That Overdelivers

📍 Location: 84, Gangaur Marg, Near Jagdish Temple Marg, Old City, Udaipur, Rajasthan
💰 Price Range: ₹200 – ₹500 per person
🕐 Best Time to Visit: Sunset / Evening
🍽️ Must Order: Paneer Butter Masala, Garlic Naan, Masala Chai

The Bhukkad Experience

Not every great restaurant needs to be expensive, and Banjara is proof of that.

For the budget traveller, the backpacker, or simply the smart eater — Banjara offers a rooftop view of the old city ghats, a warm and welcoming vibe, and food that punches well above its price point.

The Paneer Butter Masala here is exactly what you want after a long day of exploring Udaipur’s ghats — creamy, slightly sweet, deeply comforting, served with garlic naan that had just the right amount of char and butter.

The Masala Chai served at sunset, overlooking the ghat below and the lake in the distance, is one of those simple food moments that stays with you long after you’ve left the city.

Is everything perfect? No. But for the price and the experience — Banjara delivers far more than it charges for.

The Honest Truth

What We Loved:
The value. The vibe. The unapologetic simplicity. This is the kind of place that budget travellers remember for years — not because it was fancy, but because it felt real.

What Could Be Better:
The menu is very standard North Indian — don’t expect culinary adventure here. Some dishes can be inconsistent depending on the rush hour. The seating can feel cramped when full.

Bhukkad Verdict:
“The best view per rupee in Udaipur. Simple, honest, and genuinely good.”
